What Happens When You Keep Pushing Through Pain

Restricted Movement

Tight tissues and restricted joints force compensations that overload healthy structures and drive bigger injuries.

Nagging Pain Cycles

Without addressing the source, pain recycles through the same patterns—flaring up every time you push hard.

Stalled Recovery

Manual work accelerates tissue healing. Skipping it means slower progress and more time away from training.

I went to Matt for neck pain stemming from a car accident 40 yrs ago that gets kicked into high gear from stress. He did a thorough eval, came up with a game plan and started treatment immediately. He also gave me exercises to do between sessions. After a handful of visits I am virtually pain free! When I do have the occasional flair up, I have the tools to mitigate it! Thank you, Matt! I'm so grateful to have you as part of my toolbox for great health & longevity!

I was struggling with IT band issues for few years and it was impacting my running and causing back issues. Dr. Martin was able to help me understand where the issue was coming from. We created a plan to strengthen weakened muscles over 6 months. My back pain is gone and feel much stronger than before. I highly recommend making getting a consult.

5 stars across the board for Matt and his boutique style practice at Tropic Athlete. I have been dealing with debilitating migraines for most of my life and I am happy to say I am now feeling close to symptom free after working with him. He also significantly changed my approach to an old meniscus tear and how I train lower body. If you are looking for a hands on , one on one approach with a waterfront view, he's your guy!

This was my first experience with a physical therapist and Matt made it equally enjoyable and extremely informative! I appreciated how thorough he was with the initial consult, doing a full-body examination even though my pain was very localized, he didn’t rule anything out. I feel empowered with the plan + exercises provided and am grateful to have found someone so dedicated to their craft, it definitely shows! Thank you Matt!!

FAQs

Common questions about physical therapy at Tropic Athlete.

What is manual therapy and how does it work?

Sessions are $150-$175 each. We don't bill insurance, which means more time with you and less paperwork. Most clients see results in 6-8 visits, and we'll give you an honest timeline at your first evaluation.

Is manual therapy the same as massage?

We're cash-based and don't bill insurance directly. However, many clients use HSA/FSA cards or submit superbills to their insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. We can provide the documentation you need.

Will I be sore after a manual therapy session?

Each session is 45-60 minutes of one-on-one time with your therapist. No assistants, no double-booking—just focused care designed around your goals.

Do I need a referral before starting manual therapy?

We'll spend time understanding your injury, goals, and training routine. Then we'll do a thorough movement assessment, start hands-on treatment, and give you a clear plan for recovery. You'll leave with exercises and next steps.
